Hemp sprouts at Farmington Historic Plantation in Louisville

Updated: Jan 17, 2019

Farmington Historic Plantation in Louisville was once a 550-acre hemp plantation owned by John and Lucy Speed during the mid-1800s. This year, Executive Director Diane Young received an MOU from the department of agriculture to grow the first hemp crop on the property since before prohibition.

Kentucky Hempsters are working with Diane through parent company United Hemp Industries. This year, UHI provided two varieties of seed to Farmington's project and partnered with Diane in hosting Hemp Discovery Day in April. The hemp plot was planted on May 25th, 2016.
